Geist*Studio x ClaySpace

SUSTAINABILITY MEETS CRAFTSMANSHIP
At Geist*Studio, we believe that great design is not only about aesthetics, but also about meaning and impact. That’s why we’re incredibly proud of our recent collaboration with ClaySpace Studios, a not-for-profit social enterprise based in Margate. This partnership allowed us to craft something truly special – a limited run of the ‘Creators Mug’ – made from 100% recycled clay. It’s a project that celebrates sustainability, craftsmanship, and community, all while aligning with our core values as a studio.
CLAYSPACE STUDIOS
Before we dive into the collaboration itself, it’s important to understand what makes ClaySpace Studios such a unique and important part of Margate’s creative ecosystem. ClaySpace is a professional ceramics studio and teaching facility designed to cater to the whole community. As a social enterprise, its mission is to offer people of all abilities the opportunity to work with clay, whether they are beginners or seasoned artisans. The aim is to provide a space where people can explore, learn, and create, regardless of their background or experience level.
The studio offers access to professional-grade equipment and materials, alongside a supportive environment for anyone interested in ceramics. The focus is on inclusivity, education, and, of course, craft. This ethos of support and skill-sharing is what drew us to ClaySpace in the first place. We’ve always believed in the power of craftsmanship and the importance of building products that reflect skill, care, and thoughtfulness.
What’s more, ClaySpace’s deep commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility aligned perfectly with our values as a creative studio. As we all know, the fashion and design industries have been some of the biggest contributors to waste and environmental degradation. At Geist*Studio, we’re always looking for ways to do better and make more responsible decisions – whether that’s in our own design process or the projects we partner on. ClaySpace’s focus on using recycled materials made them the perfect partner for this project.
Whether it’s through the materials we use, the processes we adopt, or the partnerships we build, we’re constantly looking for ways to make more thoughtful choices.
COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability has become one of the most pressing issues of our time, and at Geist*Studio, we’ve long been dedicated to finding ways to minimise our environmental impact. Whether it’s through the materials we use, the processes we adopt, or the partnerships we build, we’re constantly looking for ways to make more thoughtful choices.
By working with ClaySpace, we were able to produce a product that not only minimises waste but also supports the ethos of sustainable production. The use of recycled clay plays a central role in this, ensuring that the Creators Mug has a minimal environmental footprint. Recycling materials for ceramics reduces the need for new resources, and it’s an effective way to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
Beyond the materials themselves, this collaboration is a perfect example of how local businesses can come together to create something meaningful. By partnering with ClaySpace – a Margate-based studio that focuses on both creativity and sustainability – we were able to keep the production process local, further reducing the carbon footprint associated with shipping materials and products.
At Geist*Studio, we’re proud of the values that drive us, and sustainability is one of the cornerstones of our creative philosophy. Working with a partner like ClaySpace, who shares our commitment to both craftsmanship and the environment, has been a natural and exciting progression for us.
